The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is the U.S. law that sets how copyright owners ask online services to remove infringing material. As the U.S. Copyright Office explains, the law also gives service providers safe harbors when they run a notice-and-takedown process — which is exactly the process below.

Your physical or electronic signature; identification of the copyrighted work; the exact URL or sound ID of the material; your contact information; a good-faith belief statement that the use is unauthorized; and an accuracy statement made under penalty of perjury.
